My Office Chair: The Lifeform Ultimate Review

by Jordan on October 24, 2007

UPDATE JAN 2012: New Lifeform Chair Review!. Still read original review first!

UPDATE OCT 2011: I’ve added some wonderful videos on how to adjust your Lifeform chair. Check them out here!
Like many of you, I spend more than a fair amount of time at my desk/computer. Also, like many of you, I have “experienced” my share of office “chairs.” After years of lower back pain and women being less than impressed with my office chairs, i decided it was time to invest. What subsequently followed was a grand journey through the world of ergonomics, deep contour seats, and maxed out credit cards.

Let me cut to the chase for the impatient out there. I ended up with the Lifeform Ultimate Executive Chair (with separate headrest, of course). It was, in my experience, the best overall chair I tested. No if’s and’s or but’s about it. Best, bar none. No disclaimer of, “well for some of you…” or even “I could see how in different applications…” Nope. Lifeform = Best. For those of you interested in how I spent almost 6 months trying to find an office chair, please read on. For those who party/go to business school, please feel free to leave now and make Happy Hour/the super-important “networking event.”

My Road of Chairs:

Recaro Commander

I mean…did you expect me to be able to resist a chair called The Commander? The Commander is a baller of a chair that is meant for, well, Commanders. Police Chiefs, Command Post Operators, Kings, etc. Basically it is meant for 24/7 use. Recaro has an illustrious history of making some very important seats and chairs. Their clients include Aston Martin, Bentley, and numerous law enforcement agencies. The Commander is their top of the line. It is one beast of a chair. I’m not a small person (actually reasonably large) and I had trouble moving this thing. Once you get it into position, it’s there. No baby shifting going on here. It also is one of the hardest chairs I have ever sat in. I mean, hard. It’s built Tonka Tough. If you have rock-hard glutes or just enjoy the comfort of sitting on asphalt, i would recommend this chair. If not…you might want to pass. That said, they do have a 30 day, no questions asked return policy and the customer service department was top-notch. Maybe I am being too hard on the Recaro. Maybe. I assure you I really wanted to like it (remember it is called The Commander) but alas it just wasn’t what I was looking for. Did I mention the chair was $3,100? Moving on…

Body Bilt Executive Chair

Yep, definitely not as fun a name as The Commander. This company prides itself on customization. And they aren’t messing around; you can customize everything from the arm rests to the casters. The problem is, when you’re done customizing, you get a chair that’s just merely OK. Doesn’t look or feel special. It just is…OK. At close to $2,000 I want better than just OK.

HermanMiller Aeron Chair

The Granddaddy of ergonomic chairs. You can’t go into an expensive office and not see one of these little mesh bad-boys hanging around like they own the place. Truth be told…the chair is fine. It didn’t wow me and I felt some Office Depot knockoff’s that had a similar feel for $800 less. That said, it’s small, lightweight, has a small footprint, and is fairly comfortable. Not bad for a small office environment. It will set you back a little more than a grand.

Humanscale Freedom Task Chair

Weird chair but interesting. It actually grew on me but the armrests were so painfully bad it wasn’t even an option. I don’t know what they were thinking or what they were trying to accomplish but the armrests are practically useless. If you need a chair to just sit in the corner and never use at a desk then by all means grab this chair. Runs about $1,100.

Lifeform Ultimate High Back (with headrest)

Now we’re talking. This chair is like sitting on a soft buttery pillow. Which sounds off but I suggest you try it. It is firm and soft in the right spots. I ordered my chair with deep brown harness leather which is some high-quality stuff. Extremely soft, smooth, and it looks fantastic. Superficial point alert: when you buy something expensive, it’s nice when it actually looks expensive. Some of these other chairs look like you could pick them up for $200 at Staples. NOTE: that is not knocking chairs from Staples. It is knocking chairs that are asking prices 15 times more than the Staples chair. End point, the Lifeform looks great.

The Lifeform can be adjusted in practically every way imaginable. Armrests even tilt toward you so your arms are supported when you are using a keyboard. It took about 10 minutes to get the chair to my liking. With practically every other chair I have used, it hits me somewhere on my body. Thigh, lower back, upper back, etc which forces me to get up every now and then. Annoying and not exactly productive. This chair just feels right.

There are a fair amount of models in the Lifeform series and this one was by far my favorite but I also liked the midback version if you don’t want a headrest. Personally, leaning all the back and having a headrest is pretty nice and recommended. My final note is that my exact chair comes in their fabric (called Dreamweave) and it is unbelievably comfortable (not to mention much cheaper). Not going to lie, the fabric version doesn’t look as good but it’s every bit as comfortable (arguably even softer) and also is highly recommended.

This is not a chair that you throw away after a year or two. This is a chair you keep for the rest of your life. It moves with you. Is it expensive? Holy American Express yes it is. Is it worth it in my opinion? 100% yes. You spend a fair amount of your life in your bed and your office chair. Might as well enjoy the time spent.

I am not sure, I thought it was anywhere, the standard BLACK leather and standard Black fabrics were reduced. I do not have the catalog but the midback black leather (standard leather) was $1299, I think this is a $300 discount.

I always recommend people to call Lori Dyson at the Las Vegas RTB. Make sure you speak to Lori and mention CoolSlice!!

  • 45Bill

JRS11, is that sale at your local RTB? No sales in S Florida :(

  • http://www.CoolSlice.com Jordan Grant

100% worth it. Just please spend 10-15 min watching the setup videos I posted on this site (top nav bar) in order to customize your chair to you!
    :JGF/iPhone

  • JRS11

Thanks again. They are having a deal (sale) on black leather or fabric with the pricing being substantially reduced at RTB. I will go there and sit in the chair for a couple of hours and see how I do, after my surgery (even before) I have had issues sitting at my desktop computer, and you cannot live your life in a bet or recliner. I really appreciate your review, even though it a lot of money for a chair if it helps it is more than worth it.

  • http://www.CoolSlice.com Jordan Grant

I absolutely recommend the Lifeform! I’m actually picking up another one…going a bit higher end with the Deer Run Bitter Chocolate and Cornflower piping with the wood base. Can’t wait.

  • JRS11

Thank you for the review, trying to decide what will work for me as my 2 steel case chairs are not doing it…lying down is my best position, using a Stressless Mayfair right now (just got it) and it is wonderful for the living room but I do not have an office chair that I can use at the computer at home…..

  • http://www.CoolSlice.com Jordan Grant

LBrice, I am so glad to hear that Lifeform helped you! People do not realize how important their office chair is and how much pain they can avoid. And it even helped you get through the pregnancy pain! Ice cream, pickles, and Lifeform chairs!

Seriously, thank you for your comment. I am lucky to have such a vibrant, generous Lifeform community on this site.

In other news, I am in the process of ordering a new Lifeform Chair….no expense spared. Thinking about getting this one: http://tinyurl.com/6d7s9wg

  • Lbrice

I was in a car accident a few years ago and injured my lower back. After I got pregnant, I was not able to sit in my desk chair without pain in my hips and tailbone. Like most people, I sit almost all day long at work and was very uncomfortable. I purchased the Lifeform 8694 “Management Grand” with a tail bone cut out and my pain was literally gone in a day. With the new Lifeform chair, I was able to sit all day and the tail bone cut out relieved the pressure. I would not have gotten through my pregnancy at work without this chair! I highly recommend it!

  • http://www.CoolSlice.com Jordan

Interesting! I haven’t had experience with the Stacatto. I’m a leather guy but I was impressed with how soft the Dreamweave was. Anybody have Dreamweave “horror stories” about it falling to disrepair?

  • Branden

Just a comment on the fabric. The dreamweave does feel very nice, but is more of an open weave fabric, and won’t wear as well as the leather. HOWEVER, for the same price the chair is available in a Stacatto fabric which outlasted their rub test, and a lifeform rep told me may outlast the leather. It looks sharper than the dreamweave as well, as it is stiched like the leather versions and has a nice pattern.. That being said, the dreamweave is softer. The Stacatto is their industrial/Commercial fabric, and should outlast the chair. The store salesperson told me someone had brought theirs in after 10-15 years, and the fabric looked like new. Oh, and if you order a chair, lifeform can put leather on the arms for a small fee instead of the vinyl that comes standard on the fabric models. So if you like the feel of leather you can have that where you actually touch the chair. I am eagerly awaiting delivery. They said it will be 2-4 weeks.

  • http://www.CoolSlice.com Jordan

Love to hear that Lifeform helped you! They are amazing chairs…you have to use them to appreciate them.

  • Rich

Last year my bad back landed me in the hospital. Once out I decided to buy myself a decent office chair. The Lifeform chair turned out to be a miracle. No longer was I suffering from severe lower back pain after remaining seated for more than ten minutes. I can sit in the Lifeform for hours and when I stand I feel refreshed.

  • Rom

Interesting about the Better Back Store. When I went to RTB, the saleman was pretty smug about the fact that Lifeform is a RTB exclusive and therefore there are no discounts to be had. Any stores other than RTB in the LA area selling Lifeform?

  • http://www.CoolSlice.com Jordan

Always love to hear about good deals. Anybody else have experience with Better Back Store?

  • Alice

As Greg said, I’ve found that The Better Back Store in Boulder is offering a really good price on these chairs. They are 18% lower then any other price I’ve found, including Relax the Back (I actually did the calculations). They were also able to assist me with finding the perfect chair for me, as I am rather small and they found me the extra small seat with their special swivel arms, giving me the exact comfort I needed to work pain free. I just wanted to recommend this great deal to everyone and hope you all find the chairs you need.

  • http://www.CoolSlice.com Jordan

Rom, you can email me at Jordan (at) Coolslice (dot) com

anybody else can email me there as well!!

In other news, anybody know a slick WordPress designer? I want to spruce up the look of ol’ CoolSlice

  • Greg

Look at the better back store, boulder co, I just picked one up for a much cheaper price than what i have found at other online retailers

  • Rom

    Aie, discount is gone.
Can you email me the contact info? I had actually called the Nevada store and talked to the lady already.

  • http://www.CoolSlice.com Jordan

haven’t tried the task chair but I have tried the mid and high backs. I would recommend any of their chairs that feel good for you. Very personal decision.

you can go to the Lifeform website and see ALL the customization options (there are a ton). See what looks good and then call your local store and see if they have it in stock or if they can order it.

Good luck on your Lifeform journey

  • Rom

Did you try any of the other Lifeform chairs? I tried the task chair and the back wasn’t high enough, but I didn’t realize that there was a “management” chair with a medium back and $500 cheaper. Is it worth looking for a store that has this in stock to try it?

  • http://www.CoolSlice.com Jordan

Interesting…I’ve never heard that. I purchased mine at a local store and it shipped fully assembled. Contact your local store, direct them to CoolSlice, tell them about the deal and see if they want to join the program.

  • Rom

Thanks, got it now. I was just a Relax the Back store and I was warned about assembly; that it is easy to destroy the chair in the process. Is that accurate?

  • http://www.CoolSlice.com Jordan

it works for me! Hmm, I made a new page, try it again: http://coolslice.com/lifeformdiscount/

also made a link near the top

  • rom

I tried the discount link at the top, and it leads to a non-existing page. Please help…

  • http://www.CoolSlice.com Jordan

I agree…the Dreamweave is good stuff. Love the leather, don’t get me wrong, but don’t pass on a Lifeform because you want to drop bills on the leather

  • http://www.CoolSlice.com Jordan

They are playing hard to get unfortunately. But I’m not giving up. I may have to go through local stores to get the discount. If you can wait till the end of the week I would. I’m trying for you! =)

  • ajwilk

Don’t panic about the cost of leather on the Lifeform Chairs, yes it is Premium Leather, dyed through and trible base ball stitched and warranteed for as long as you own it against splitting, drying out, cracking, stitches breaking or wear through. But the fabric is great and about $900.00 less.

  • http://www.dermaglow.com Bjohnk

Jordan, Thanks for the review! I too am big 6′ 7″ and about 300lbs…I just sent my $2,300 Bodybilt chair back to the factory, creeking, listing to the side, armrest would not staying up, etc…. Certainly did not look or fit like a chair costing over $2K. I am looking to buy the Lifeform chair….any progress on getting your CoolSlice followers a discount?

  • http://www.CoolSlice.com Jordan

Congrats!! I am in the process of getting discounts for my CoolSlice readers on Lifeform chairs so hold off a few days if you can!

  • ATLGRL

    Hi Jordan,

Thank you so much for your thoughtful (and hilarious) review! I am ordering my life form chair today!

  • http://www.theturbopress.com Mike

I was set on buying the Bodybuilt chair until I came across this site. What really ended up selling me was I found a local store that had them in stock, and they let me take one home for a couple of days to try it for free. I could not find a Bodybuilt chair locally. Jordan you need to hit up the Lifeform company for commissions because you just sold another one. I ended up buying one just like yours, mid back with headrest, black base, premium leather, same color even :) thanks buddy! The one thing I wished I would have known was how much you paid, so I’m telling $1,378.00 + $399.00 for the head rest for a total of $,1,778.00 + tax.

  • http://www.CoolSlice.com Jordan

I 100% agree. Think of this purchase as you would a car. You want to make sure you test drive every model and get the one that is just right for you. Don’t be fooled by the flashy stuff if it doesn’t matter to you! Happy sitting everyone.

  • http://www.CoolSlice.com Jordan

I wrote this review exactly because I couldn’t find any other review! Glad so many people have joined the Lifeform family. =)

  • Izzy

I’m also in the process right now. I’m getting ready to order two chairs – a high back and a mid-back, both w/ premium leather, standard base. My wife and I are just trying to pick out the right colors to match the office. They are actually offering a great deal right now through RTB – free upgrade to premium leather and 3x points on your American Express (if you use it). The premium leather has a much better feel and is WARRANTIED FOR LIFE. I don’t believe that this applies to any of the other fabrics, even standard leather.

My best advice to anyone thinking about purchasing this chair is to go into the RTB store and let them adjust it for you and give you a tour of all the chair offers. They actually came out to my house and took some measurements to help find the right chairs for me and my wife. They even allowed us to take a bunch of chairs home to try for a few days to see how they felt with extended use.

Word of advice: Be very careful about which base you buy. The chrome base w/ the special wheels is made for hardwood or tile floors and DOES NOT roll very well on softer surfaces. Also, this base is very long and is much better for taller people (>6 feet) at higher desks. If you are very short or have a very low desk, they can order you special bases that will work out better for you. I also highly recommend that everyone supplement their chair with a rocking footrest.

The people at RTB are very helpful and they can suggest many ways to customize the chair – most of which are not readily apparent online. They are even able to customize the lumbar support so that it fits YOUR back, rather than everyone else’s. There are multiple optional attachments that may or may not help your style of work.

These are some of the reasons that I advise you to go into the store. Best of all, if you buy it through them you won’t have to pay for shipping and you’ll get free assembly. You might even be able to negotiate free home delivery!

  • warant

Wow! I happened across this forum just in time! I am doing the BB vs LF comparison right now too. Almost bought a BB, but might have to get down the Relax The Back Store in MN first.

Thanks SO much for the feedback…these are co$tly decisions!

  • northshore

The 30 day bodybilt trial is not free because you pay the original shipping and they pay to return it if you don’t like the chair. In my case the trial would cost about $248.91 for the shipping. The quote I got was 5/9/2011

  • http://www.CoolSlice.com Jordan

Congrats TallBoy! Enjoy your new purchase. You will have it for years and years and I believe its on of the best investments you can ever make. Post a photo (or send it to me and I’ll post it)

  • TallBoy

Ok, my wallet feels especially light after coughing up $2700 for my new LifeForm chair. I can’t compare it to the Bodybilt, but it is definitely the nicest most comfortable chair I’ve ever had. I had to buy the extra tall piston, the high-end wheels (that look like inline skate wheels), and my seat is at the tallest possible position. After all that, it is perfect in height. For those that have a longer inseam than me (38″), I don’t know what you’ll do and you might give Bodybilt a look because this is as tall as Lifeform goes. I’m loving this chair though, black leather, high back. I didn’t want leather but I bought the month old floor model for a discount and that’s what it had. Thanks again for your review!

  • TallBoy

I’m now leaning toward a Lifeform chair (mostly thanks to you), but I may still order a Bodybilt chair first. It’s hard to pass up the 30 day, no-risk, no restocking fee, offer. My biggest fear of commitment here is that I feel like this is like building your own home. The first one or two are mostly just learning experiences. At $2k a pop, these office chairs are pricey learning experiences. I think my masters degree cost less. :)

  • TallBoy

Thanks for the quick reply. I know that some manufacturers offer optionally longer “support poles” (for lack of a better term) in order to make the chair taller. I’ll call a Lifeform store and grill them, thanks!

  • http://www.CoolSlice.com Jordan

Hi there, Tallboy! I’m 6’4″ so I have some trouble fitting into things as well. Never thought the world was made for me and I can’t imagine being 6’7″ if even more difficult. I love my chair and I know you can adjust it to fit you. I don’t believe Lifeform custom makes chairs (one size fits all with tons of adjustments). Don’t quote me on that though! A lifeform rep left a comment on this post, definitely reach out and see what they recommend.

    Good luck!

  • TallBoy

I talked to a BodyBilt rep just today and they want over $2k for the chair for me. That’s about 4 times the amount that I originally expected to pay for a chair. I’m willing to spend over a $1000, but I want to get my money’s worth. Your review has me very interested in the Lifeform, but I’m 6’7″ with a 38″ inseam. I have *never* tested a chair that could adjust to tall enough for me. The BodyBilt rep assured me that my custom built chair would fit my height perfectly. Does Lifeform custom build their chairs also, or did you have to buy a one-size-fits-all chair? If it is indeed the same chair for everyone, then does it adjust to be taller than other “normal” office chairs you’ve used? This height factor is the make it or break it point for me. Thanks for your help!

  • Catherine

    Hi All -
I don’t know how many years ago I bought my Relax the Back Lifeform high back executive chair. It was a long time ago. Fifteen years? 20? Anyway, I bought a floor model so I got a little discount. It’s a lovely carmelly-brown. Oh and I’m tall, so I bought the high back.

I’m sitting in it right now. It’s the most comfortable chair I’ve EVER sat in. I imagine I’ll have it for the rest of my life. I can work at my computer for 7-8 hours and still feel great. It just looks better and better as the leather mellows with age. It’s in perfect condition and I use it a LOT! The only think I notice is, every week or two, I have to bring the seat back up just a tad. I keep it at the highest height, and I seem to grind it down a little over time. I’m overweight, so it’s not the chair’s fault! Recently I went to a new bodyworker – a Rolfer actually (he was great) – and saw he had an even older model – which he loves too!

I have a new office and I’m going to buy TWO more of these chairs – one extra grande for me and one for my client (I’m a psychotherapist). Together they are gonna set me back 5 grand, since I want a particular color of gold leather to match my office. As soon as I get an insurance refund I’m waiting for, I’ll march down and put the 50% down payment! Can’t wait. In my office, I’m sitting in an Ikea chair now and believe me, I notice how uncomfortable it gets after awhile!

So there will be two lucky people every hour in my office enjoying the wonderful, comfortable, supportive High Back Executive chair. It’s terrific.

    Hi Jordan,

I too am looking for the perfect office chair. I have been in the relax the back store and was quiter impressed with the chair. I’m wondering, if in your search you looked into the Neutral Posture Chair. It’s nice and certainly has some good features to it but i’m just wondering if you have had any experience withy this company’s chairs?

  • Colin

    Jordan,

Are you going to sell your chair? I am interested in buying a used lifeform.

  • bttmlne

    Jordan,

After reading your great review and all of the comments, I am under the impression you might be here in Washington. If you are planning on selling it, send me an e-mail ;) bttmlne at gmail dot com.

    Thanks!

I love the community interest in this review! Glad everybody is so helpful. =)

My chair is still kicking around perfectly. I love it. I may be moving across the country and might even have to sell my beloved chair to save on moving costs. Tough. It’s broken in perfectly so not sure I would be able to.

If I did sell it, however, I would have to buy a new one, no question about it. Once you go Lifeform…. =)

  • mngoldenboy

Sorry, here is the website from the store where I bought my chair.

    http://www.relaxtheback.com/

  • mngoldenboy

I do recommend finding a store so you are able to test a few models. I knew right away when I sat in this chair, I was taking it home. I got 20% off the floor model, that included a military discount (it had been on the floor for 2 weeks). Saved the set up fee or having to set it up myself. Now I waiting for a footpad and floor pad to arrive from Amazon to complete the set up. I am in a yearlong Master’s program and spend hours pounding away on the keyboard. Good luck all!

    Jeff

  • mngoldenboy

I bought the chair that is pictured last week at Relax your back in MN and love it! (along with a new desk from OfficeMax) for my home office. Yes it is costly, but I spent a lot on a TV, a lap top, a mattress…why not on a chair that will give hours of comfort and last many years…? No regrets! A+

  • jpark

thanks for the review! it was very useful

I’m actually also debating between a bodybilt and a lifeform. In particular I was interested in the deep contour options and was wondering if you had any experience with for either brands and if you had any opinions.

I’ve tried a seat type 2 (deepest) for the bodybilt and it was very nice compared to other chairs I’ve used -providing a lot more support. the lesser contoured ones were only ok. lifeform seems to only come in two depths and it doesn’t seem as deep as bodybilt’s seat type 2. so I was wondering maybe the bodybilt you had was only ok because the contour wasn’t deeper(?)

    thanks again and best!

  • http://www.rawmilktruth.com/ Terrie

Just wanted to add a few comments here since I own a BodyBilt chair and have also tried the Lifeform (so this makes me an expert, lol)

I bought the BodyBilt I think it was about 7 years ago. At the time I researched chairs TO DEATH. I did a ridiculous amount of research, I really should have had a blog about it because I tried so many chairs. Aeron, Freedom, Steelcase, etc, you name it, I tried it. For some reason I kept going back to the BodyBilt website and finally had someone come out to my house and demo it since I couldn’t find one to try any other way.

I had pretty much made up my mind on that chair when I happened by a Relax the Back store and tried the Lifeform. At the time, I was planning to spend $1200 on the BodyBilt, and the Lifeform was $1700. However, that Lifeform chair was the most comfortable chair EVER. And it adjusted every which way, which is what I need. But I balked at the extra $500 and went ahead and bought the BodyBilt as planned.

Well here it is 7 years later and the seat of this chair is no longer at all comfortable. Pretty hard actually. Also, although most of the parts are metal, there are plastic parts on the arm rests where they fit onto the chair and they just broke, both of them, this past week. Now, I do use my chair all the time, every single day, for hours. So it has seen a lot of use and abuse. And to be fair, it has been a really nice chair up until the past year or two I would say.

So, the point of all this babbling is if I had it to do all over I would no doubt buy the Lifeform. And in fact I’m planning to buy one soon, but it will probably have to wait until after Christmas.

    Cheers!
    Terrie

    Coal, thanks for checking in!

Now we have a local pro on the comments. =)

  • Coalsilhouette

Hello there Jordan! Glad to hear you are loving your chair from Lifeform!

As to Chris’s question about the warm memory foam. If the memory foam is made correctly – it is completely breathable. In other words, unless you have been dropped into Phoenix, Arizona; this chair will not sit hot.

Also, the memory foam of the chair is under warranty for 5 years from date of purchase. Also, the right leather worker can easily undo the leather stitching, replace the foam, and restitch the chair with no outward change to the look. You just have to find a decent leather worker.

I currently am employed by Relax The Back in Seattle (Lynnwood to be exact). So I will be happy to answer any warranty or technical questions for anyone.

  • Chris

Thanks, Jordan. I’m not concerned about the leather as it’s beyond my needs or budget, I’m more concerned about the memory foam, which I’ve heard can be on the warm side since it reacts to body temp. I work at home and my office tends to get a little warm during the day, and I want to get an idea whether I’ll be cooking in that chair. It’s my only reservation at this point. Thanks again!

  • http://www.CoolSlice.com Jordan

So glad to hear it! Welcome to the lifeform family!

  • http://www.CoolSlice.com Jordan

Chris, thanks for your comment! Glad I could help. I found it frustrating that no lifefofm revie was posted when I was looking.

The leather does get a bit hot in the summer but it’s really not that bad or at least not that much worse than the dreamweave. Personally I don’t do much work during the day, most of my home computing is late when it’s cooler. Plus, leather looks so much better!

Good luck, I’m sure you will love it either way

  • Chris

Jordan, thanks for your review. I was just looking at a Lifeform chair yesterday and I was just about ready to buy one from the first moment. However, I’m a little concerned about memory foam and body heat. In the winter that’s fine, but in the summer, no so much. I know your chair is covered in leather and that’s different than cloth, but do you find that the chair tends more toward warm or cool?

  • Dawn

I am indebted to you for this great review. Thanks to you, I am now sitting in my new Lifeform chair, which is exactly like yours except I got the deer run leather in black. This is a seriously comfortable chair. I have a sensitive tailbone, and this chair is the only chair I can sit in for any length of time without aggravating pain. The cost was painful, but I feel it was worth it.

  • http://www.CoolSlice.com Jordan

Hi there Irene! Thanks for reading.

The bodybilt was a solid chair but it didn’t have the wow factor and build quality of the Lifeform. It just didn’t make me want to keep sitting on it compared to the lifeform. Again not to say that the bodybilt is not a quality chair, it is, but just not to the level of the lifeform. Lifeform was softer and thicker plus the headrest was comfier.

I did purchase the chair from Relax The Back

Don’t hesitate to ask me any further questions

I loved your comments on these chairs. Unfortunately, I just ordered a Body Bilt chair for work today. How did you try bodybilt chair? Why is it okay only?

Did you buy your chair at the relex the back? Thank you, Irene

Leslie, thank you for the kind words and I'm glad my post helped your search! Please stop by and tell me what you ultimately purchased.

    I am researching chairs–this helped a lot. Furthermore, I enjoyed reading this–great writing :)

Personally, and obviously I can only speak of my experience, but I have had nothing but an amazing experience with my chair. My only problem was not even the chairs fault. I had someone clean my house and they accidentally snapped the headrest off the chair (they thought it was stuck but it was locked). I called up Relax the Back and they delivered me a brand new chair. No questions asked. Pretty amazing.

I think this chair is built like a tank and looks/feels like new. I also think that whatever chair that person was complaining about was the lower end model of their series. Not excusing them in any way, but again, just can speak to the chair that I have.

    good luck!

I LOVE my Lifeform chair. It I am said to say this but I am selling mine because I will be going on a backpacking trip around the world and will not have a place to store the chair.

This chair is about 6 months old and in PERFECT condition. I am asking for $1300 which is a $300 discount from the Lifeform® Ultimate Mid Back Executive Office Chair purchased at the store.

I live in south florida and would rather not ship. Please contact me at bruno at bopia dot com.

Jordan, I also have been researching chairs for a long time. I really wanted a Tempurpedic chair but they seem to not be making them anymore. I also LOVE sitting in the chair at the store. However, for $3,000, I expect it to last. Have you read the following complaint from one of their customers? http://www.xaxxeon.com/lifeform/index.html
I know there is always a few complainers with any product, but my concern is they don't have any kind of guarantee for the foam itself. Everything else but that.
What is your opinion on his complaint? How easy do you think it would be to replace the foam without wrecking the chair or warranty on the leather?

    Thanks for your comment!

    1. Yes, i have the midback with the head attachment because I’m a pretty tall guy (6’4″) and my head went over the high back model. I also felt the midback with the head adjustment was much more comfortable (again, for me). Both were very impressive.

    2. I actually don’t remember how much I paid for it but I know it wasn’t cheap. I received a 10% discount on the chair and received free shipping, however. Just haggled a bit, nothing fancy.

    3. I was debating the other bases (steel, wood, etc) but they were so expensive and I really didn’t think they added too much to the chair. Personal preference, though.

I can’t recommend this chair enough. Just an amazing piece of equipment. My one word of advice is spend the few hours it takes to really appreciate how much you can customize this thing to your tastes.

    Good luck!

Very informative Jordan, though you clearly have the midback. The highback doesn’t need a separate headrest as its back extends above your head; it’s not even possible as an option. I was just in the store today, so its all very fresh in my mind. May I ask how much you paid? Did you buy in store? Did they charge for delivery? Did you consider the wood base? My back has failed me and I’m in desparte straits to find a good chair. Once again: excellent read!

I can’t say enough good things about this chair. Really just a solid, well built, even more comfortable than they day I got it. My friend purchased the dreamweave/non leather version which actually feels pretty nice. i personally don’t think it LOOKS as good as the leather but I could see how someone would think it was more comfortable (little more squishy) and possible has more air exchange.

Personally, i love my chair and i think it looks beautiful.

    keep me updated!

How is the chair holding up after a year and a half? Are you still satisfied with its comfort? How is the breathing on the leather? What is the type too? Stone Mountain, Deer Run, etc..

I am torn between the Lifeform and Bodybilt chairs. Lifeform feels more comfortable, but after sitting in a Stone Mountain chair for 15 minutes in-store it feels like the leather doesn’t exchange air very well.

Absolutely love the chair. Everybody who sits down instantly is jealous and wants to know how to get one. Highly, highly, recommended!

I’m also curious if you still love the chair, and how long have you had it now? Do you mind posting how much you paid for it?
