A wise man (we call him “River”), recently said that men learn most of their actions from the movies they love. These are the staple “guy movies” such as “Godfather”, “Hoosiers”, “Scarface”, “Bad Boys”, “Top Gun”, or “A Land Before Time.” Especially the last one. Littlefoot was an old school baller.

That got us thinking about staple “girl movies.” What are they? I’m actually curious. What movies do women “relate to?” Most guys probably wanted to be Maverick at some point in his life but which female character do women want to be? I can only think of princess movies. Sex in the City? The women died at the end of Thelma and Louise so probably not those two.

Yes, there are some overlap. I’m sure there are a ton of women who love the Godfather, Top Gun, etc but did they love it the same way guys do and for the same reason? Rarely have I seen a Godfather poster in a girls room (yes I am sure there are some, I just don’t go into many teenage girls rooms).

What’s the point of all this? Not sure but it’s interesting (to me at least) that men have movies they “connect” with that promote honor, respect, sacrifice, and consequence albeit usually connected with vast amount of violence and mistreatment of women.

I know it’s a deeper societal issue; men are raised to be protectors, fighters, takers and thus that is what is portrayed on film. I was just curious if women felt any connection to movies that shape the way they act or feel in similar ways.

Note: yes I believe that people are shaped by more than just movies.

Common problem: you have a nice list of bookmarks on your main computer but don’t have them on your laptop or your work computer. Even worse, what if have to wipe your computer then all your precious bookmarks you’ve saved over the years will be lost forever (you don’t seem like someone who knows how to frequently backup your bookmarks). Woe is you.

Enter: XMarks. A free add-on for the internet browser of your choice (Internet Explorer, Firefox, Chrome, or Safari). After a quick install and a creation of an XMarks account, your bookmarks will automatically be saved to the XMarks server. Nothing else needs to be done on your end. As you add bookmarks, XMarks will automatically update the list of bookmarks on their server.

You want your bookmarks on another computer? Just install XMarks on that computer, log into your account, and bam the bookmarks are pushed to that new computer. Now feel free to add bookmarks on either computer and rest assured that they will show up on both computers.

All free and pretty darn slick.

Have fun bookmarkin’

Grats on your new toy.

Secondly, here’s how you get the new toy working:

1. Plug in and sync your current iPhone (not the new iPhone 4) with iTunes. Make sure to “Check for Update” while you’re here to make sure you have latest iOS 4.

2. Unplug your current iPhone and TURN IT OFF

3. Plug in your new iPhone 4 with iTunes running on your computer

4. Follow the directions till you get to a happy page that looks like this:

Just make sure “Restore from the backup of <your old iPhone> is selected and click Continue.

5. AT&T will then do the whole activation party, follow the directions

6 (optional). If you have any email accounts on your iPhone you need to manually go into the mail settings (settings, Mail/contants/calendars) and enter in the password(s).

7 (optional). Make sure iTunes is syncing the music/movies you want correctly.

Congrats! Now you have your new iPhone 4 with all your contacts, text messages, email accounts, and photos.

Step 1: You switch to ATT and buy the new iPhone 4 32gb for $299.

Done and done. I put my sim card in the iPhone 4 and you put your sim card in my iPhone 3GS. Too easy. I get an iPhone for the contract price and you get a free iPhone 3GS. Can’t lose.

The iPhone has had 3 iterations since it’s inception in 2007. Those models were seen almost as bandaids to the original model, adding features/changes that many thought should have been on the original iPhone. The latest, iPhone 3GS, was a pretty impressive phone but it should not have taken 2 years for Apple to get to it.

Finally, with the iPhone 4, we get a massive hardware update. The screen alone which is almost three times the resolution of the iPhone 3GS is reason enough to upgrade. The screen and the underlying graphics hardware running the iPhone 4 will finally be ready for the all the tasty HD content coming down the pipe.

iPhone 4 also brings us a much better camera (including a flash!) and video chat to other iPhone 4 users over wifi. How useful will this be? Not sure yet. All depends how much time you spend in Starbucks wanting to video chat with someone in front of everyone else in Starbucks. I see the video chat feature mainly being used by people who are at home but just want to video chat instead of merely testing or calling. Kinda cool. We’ll just have to see how good it works.

Finally, the design is slimmer and of a much higher quality than previous iPhones. Hopefully increasing battery life and reception. Neve a bad thing but we’ll just have to see when it releases on the 24th.

Long story short, any current iPhone user now has a reason to upgrade which has never really been the case. It’s also never a better time to think about making an iPhone switch for all you blackberry folks out there. You will live without BBM….I promise.
